DigitalVision LLC Develop 'NextGen' Eye Testing Equipment

The Georgia Research Alliance (GRA) and Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) have come together to assist an Atlanta-based company in the development of a new vision-testing device. DigitalVision LLC is working on the VisionOptimizer, an instrument that is set to provide more accurate measurements when testing eyesight.

The device will be particularly useful for those who wear contact lenses, both disposable and otherwise, as well as for those who wear glasses.

The VisionOptimizer will help opticians and other doctors in the vision field to take better measurements, replacing the phoropter, an instrument that has not changed in any significant respect since the early 1900s. Utilising computer algorithms that were not previously available, GTRI researchers have redesigned VisionOptimizer's optical system for higher performance. In turn, this should help create more accurate prescriptions, giving patients clearer, crispier, sharper vision with the use of contact lenses and other eyewear.

Researchers hope that this new technology will lead to disposable contact lenses being custom-made for each individual user. In today’s high-tech world where Smartphones, laptops and desktop computers are necessary for both work and personal life, sharper vision has become a high priority for consumers.

“Anyone who has had an eye examination will appreciate the potential of DigitalVision’s technology,” commented Lee Herron, Vice President of Commercialization for the Georgia Research Alliance. “Doctors in this space are hungry for technology to replace the phoropter. This system will allow doctors to introduce a new category of corrective products to their patients.”

DigitalVision LLC hope to have a prototype available for beta testing within six months.
